Hello everyone...
Thank you for stopping by!

Here’s a little bit about me.

I am passionate about music, the human voice, braving our most terrifying demons, and bringing people together.

I’m fortunate to have had the privilege of traveling the world and working with incredible humans from all walks of life.

My purpose is to help heal discord and transmute dissonance into connection, and grief into joy.

My voice, my drum, and my heart have been my fierce companions in creating safe spaces for sharing everywhere I go.

I have had the immense honor of sharing the stages with luminaries such as Yanka Rupkina, Hüsnü Senlendirici, Javier Limon, the NY Gypsy All-Stars, Ran Blake, Jamey Haddad, the Assad Brothers, Binka Dobreva, Javier Limon and Bobby McFerrin, on stages such as Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Casa Arabe and the Moscow International House of Music, to name a few.

I’ve also appeared in the 2009 PBS documentary film "The Music Instinct: Science and Song", featuring Bobby McFerrin, Daniel Levitin, Oliver Sacks, Daniel Barenboim, and Yo-Yo Ma.

I’ve also won and been nominated for several awards for my songs and albums. and film composer.

Here’s a little bit about my last two projects:  'Eastern Tapestries', released in 2013,  celebrates the different vocal traditions of the Middle East, the Balkans, and Central Asia, and ranges from traditional renditions to in the moment contemporary improvisations.

My most recent release (2022) by the Christiane Karam Quintet, strives to explore human connection and the journey of healing darkness and separation while celebrating the exuberance and depth of the vast array of musical traditions I come from.

Christiane Karam

Having grown up in violent conflict and having genocide in my DNA (my mother’s family are survivors of the Armenian genocide), I am staunch activist for cultural understanding, tolerance, and non-violent conflict resolution.

I was humbled to be honored by Berklee in 2001 for my “outstanding contribution to international goodwill and understanding” for a multi-national peace concert I produced in the aftermath of 9/11 and I have since founded the Berklee Annual Middle Eastern Festival, now in its 17th year - which strives to create a platform of cultural exchange and understanding between artists in the Middle East, Balkan, Caucasus and Mediterranean, and students and audiences from all around the world, and the Pletenitsa Balkan Choir,  comprised of singers from around the globe and which highlights the stirring vocal traditions of the Balkans and the neighboring regions.

Currently on the faculty of Berklee College of Music, as a Professor in Voice, Ensemble, and Songwriting, I actively continue the work of bringing awareness and Positive Social Change through music and the arts. I also perform, teach, and coach around the world.

I’m also a published author, and as a holistic practitioner, I am committed to promoting wellness and balance through various mind-body practices.

My method and workshop ‘Voices: Your Path To Embodiment’ has taken me around the world and I’m excited to be introducing more offerings and iterations of it in the coming year. Stay tuned!

Voices By Christiane Karam
Voices is a Vocal Improvisation Workshop I originally founded in 2012 and that has since evolved into a profound tool for embodiment, release, and creativity, alongside broadening musicianship. It takes the participants on a journey of discovery and empowerment of self through the understanding and practice of vocal improvisation, be it in toning, partner vocalizations and group work.

'Since meeting Christiane Karam, a new musical world has opened for me. She is one of the most important voices in Mediterranean music today. Not only is she a great vocalist and composer but she also has a very special artistic vision. Her unique approach to combining the many influences she incorporates in her music and projects will one day be a reference for young artists who strive to bridge different musical cultures in a meaningful way'

- Javier Limon (7 time Latin Grammy Winner)
